Q4 2007 Worldwide Enterprise and Service Provider
Router/Switch Market Shares
Migration to Next-Generation Networks Spur Router/Switch Sales to Service Providers

RENO, NV and STERLING, VA – February 25, 2008 – Synergy Research Group and Current Analysis today announced the availability of the Synergy Q4 2007 Worldwide Enterprise and Service Provider Router/Switch Market Shares report. Quarter to quarter worldwide router and switch sales were up 1% to $3.3 billion in Q4. Total sales for 2007 were up 17% over the 2006, to $12.4 billion.

Growth in worldwide router markets in Q4 2007 continued with the migration of service providers to Next-Generation Networks based on an IP, MPLS, and Ethernet data services layer. Q4 Service Provider Router/Switch revenue increased one percent to $2.4 billion over the prior quarter, with total 2007 revenue up 25% over 2006 to $8.83 billion. "IP video and peer-to-peer applications are becoming increasingly popular," says Ray Mota, PhD, Chief Research Officer at Synergy Research Group. "Service providers must continue investing in routers and switches with higher speed ports to manage the fast growing voice and data traffic."

However, paced by slower economic growth, Q4 enterprise router revenue decreased one percent sequentially to $901 million, and no change from 2006 to 2007. All major router categories (low-end, mid-range, and high-end) were flat or posted losses in Q4.
