Data Management The Current Analysis Data Management module covers a variety of disciplines and technologies that are designed to manage data as a core resource. Data Management is divided into a number of market segments, including: Data Management (DM): DM includes all tools and runtime components necessary to manage the entire life of business data from creation through integration, cleansing, consolidation, processing, usage, and governance. DM environments include business intelligence (BI), data warehousing (DW), data integration (DI), data quality (DQ), metadata management, information modeling, data monitoring, and other critical life cycle infrastructures. Business Intelligence (BI): Business BI includes all tools and runtime components necessary to provide actionable information, insight, analysis, and decision support to business users. Information may be retrieved into BI environments from one or more repositories, including diverse databases, data marts, data warehouses, operational data stores, document management systems, and online transaction processing systems. Data Warehousing (DW): DW includes all tools and runtime components necessary to consolidate structured master data into subject-oriented, integrated, non-volatile, time-variant repositories under unified business governance. DW environments consolidate master data from source data stores through various DI approaches and govern its controlled distribution to various operational data stores, data marts, access databases, and BI environments. Data Integration (DI): DI includes all the tools and runtime components needed to retrieve, extract, and move data from origin repositories; validate and transform the data; and deliver it to target databases, data warehouses, data marts, and applications. The DI marketplace also includes data quality (DQ) solutions for profiling source data; matching, merging, and cleansing that data; and augmenting it with additional, related data. Regulatory Compliance (RC): RC refers to legal mandates for organizations to maintain internal controls, obtain independent verification of those controls, provide audited reports vouching for those controls, and correct any deficiencies in those controls. As a market, RC encompasses both professional services and IT products. Vendors in diverse product segments use RC as an all-embracing theme for positioning diverse offerings. RC-related solutions are in such segments as identity and access management, information and application security, configuration and change management, data and document management, business intelligence, corporate performance management, risk management, business process management, system monitoring, auditing, and archiving.
