Download brochure (PDF)

Global Remote Access Services (RAS) are pivotal to the modern global enterprise as they allow remote or frequently traveling employees to securely access corporate information and resources regardless of their location. Service providers not only offer customers access via multiple network technologies such as dial-up, hotel broadband, WiFi, ISDN, DSL and wireless WANs, but they have made the services easier to use and manage with user and IT-defined prioritization options.

A variety of security services are also offered to make sure that remote users do not compromise corporate data; these include both perimeter and end-point solutions that make sure users are authenticated, and data is protected according to company policies for anti-virus, personal firewall, intrusion detection and other security provisions.

Alternate Channels: How Mobile Business Process Apps Get to Market

Kitty Weldon
Principal Analyst, Enterprise Mobility - U.S.
February 27, 2007

While carriers are expanding their activities by selling select mobile business applications as bill-through services, other members of the EM eco-system are also busily selling solutions to enterprise customers either directly or through other channels. VARs, systems integrators, and hosted service providers, as well as middleware, ERP/CRM, database software vendors, and mobile application specialists all have different ways of going to market.

These solutions can add mobile access and transactions to key processes such as field and sales force automation, customer relationship management, dispatch, asset, facilities, and inventory management, logistics, and vehicle tracking. What kinds of models/channels target which customer segments? Are there too few options available or too many? Are these disparate solutions competitive or complementary, and how do they relate to carrier distribution models?
