Event Summary

June 17, 2008 – Taqua announced Taqua MobileWorks, a solution designed to support fixed and mobile communications and deliver advanced applications across wireline and wireless networks based up GSM/CDMA, 2G, 3G and 4G. Taqua has developed a Mobile Interface Card for its T7000 switching system, and in partnership with Mavenir and using its mONE Convergence platform, can now deliver ubiquitous services across wireline legacy, broadband and wireless networks.

Analytical Summary

• Current Perspective: Slightly positive on Taqua’s announcement of MobileWorks that is based upon a new mobile interface card (MIC) and partnership with Mavenir, because it provides Taqua with a fairly comprehensive FMC solution covering a variety of access methods including: legacy fixed wireline, broadband and wireless GSM/CDMA, 2G, 3G and 4G subscribers. This solution should nicely fulfill the needs of the Tier 2/3 service providers that Taqua specifically targets and offer them a smooth migration path to their IP NGN.

• Vendor Importance: Moderate to high to Taqua, because the development of the MIC and partnership with Mavenir will allow them to pursue mobile applications not previously supported. The integration of the technology alone, requiring special purpose hardware is an indication of the level of difficulty and effort required to develop a highly integrated solution.

• Market Impact: Moderate to high on the Class 5 alternative and softswitch market segment, because the combined technology is providing the functional equivalent of a mobile switching center (MSC) and thus bringing greater deployment flexibility to the T7000 and improving its competitiveness. Taqua can now up-sell this solution to its installed base as well as target new FMC applications in the wireless space.
