There were 13 new infrastructure services contracts announced by seven telecom vendors and services firms in September 2010. This month, the EMEA region far and away accounted for the largest percentage of deals – 69% – with six of the nine deals coming from Europe. Continuing with the pattern that emerged throughout the summer, September was again light in terms of contract announcements.

However, this trend runs counter to the higher level trend which has seen services revenues continue to account for a greater percentage of total company revenue within most large vendor organizations (including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei and Nokia Siemens Networks). As such, while increasing services revenues indicate that services deals are increasing in terms of numbers and/or size, it seems that operators could be increasingly reluctant to discuss their services engagements publicly. To this end, a close examination of the announced deals for clues pertaining to market trends and developments becomes increasingly valuable.
